rannis logoThe Icelandic Centre for Research (RANNIS) supports research, research studies, technical development and innovation in Iceland. RANNIS cooperates closely with the Icelandic Science and Technology Policy Council and provides professional assistance the preparation and implementation of science and technology policy in Iceland.

RANNIS administers competitive funds and strategic research programmes, coordinates and promotes Icelandic participation in collaborative international projects in science and technology, monitors resources and performance in R&D and promotes public awareness of research and innovation in Iceland. It's main office is in Reykjavík but it also has an office in Akureyri.

Main Arctic Projects

Rannís participates on behalf of Iceland in the The International Arctic Science Committee (IASC). IASC´s mission is to encourage and facilitate cooperation in all aspects of Arctic research, in all countries engaged in Arctic research and in all areas of the Arctic region. Rannís participates in the SAON initiative (Sustaining Arctic Observing Networks) a joint project with IASC and the Arctic Council. Rannís coordinates research cooperation between China and the Nordic countries regarding scientific Arctic research. Rannís is a part of the Icelandic Committee of Arctic matters. The institution also participates in Arctic related projects such as the Clik´EU projectToppforskningsinitiativet project and the Northern Research Forum.
